1/18/25-Saturday-Day 43 “Drifting and Daydreaming”

We started the day with a walk up the hill just outside of town to check out Cascada El Meco. It was a bit more impressive than I had expected. Though we were only able to view the falls from a roadside overlook I’m sure it is quite magnificent at the base. With not much else to see we spend little time at the overlook before heading down the hill and back to camp. Being camped right next to the turquoise river has us all wanting to get out on the water!

I get our two packrafts out for Heather and I while Mark and Michele hop on their inflatable paddle board together. We start out paddling upstream as far as we can before coming to a series of small cascades at which point we simply let the slow moving river carry us down stream at a nice leisurely pace. As we drift down stream we watch Egrets flying overhead while trying to stay mindful of the small cascades approaching signifying our turn around point.

Once back to camp we drag the boats on shore and take advantage of the onsite showers which are now quite refreshing seeing as they are cold water only. As the evening draws on a couple more campers arrive and the already cramped space begins to feel even smaller. We start to wonder what trying to leave tomorrow morning will look like…
