1/4/25-Saturday-Day 29 “Hamburguesas y Papas a la Francesca”

We woke up this morning feeling well rested. I was especially grateful that I was able to sleep. I think our soak in the hot spring last night along with my unlimited hot water shower definitely helped in that. It was only our second night on mainland and my nerves were admittedly still a little shot due to our recent cartel encounter on day one. I didn’t sleep very much that first night. I kept replaying our day over and over in my head of what could have been. But I’m feeling better about things. Camping in an adventure water park is completely new to us and not somewhere we’d typically stay in the states but we are in the land of new. Plus it’s gated and right now I’m welcoming the added layer of security.

I’m glad we’ve decided to stay another night. It was an easy choice with the price of camping for the second night being half the price of the first. We also once again got the entire place to ourselves after the park closed at 6pm. I thought for sure we’d find ourselves back over at the hot springs but that didn’t happen, instead we hung around camp figuring out our next move and enjoyed being still. Adam worked on some writing and photo editing while I socialized with our amigos. I later saw myself in the mirror and noticed how much sun I’ve gotten. I forgot we were at such high elevation and the sun has been intense. We decided to take a walk around the park, checking out all the pools and hot springs and during our walk we noticed how cloudy it had become. We thought for sure we were about to get poured on but didn’t, though it was raining all around us.

Our friends had tried the burgers and fries from the water park restaurant yesterday so that was our dinner plan for the day. The burgers were pretty disappointing though I didn’t have high hopes to begin with. The fries however were decent. The cloudy skies really added to our sunset this evening, it was beautiful. I enjoyed the show and smiled watching Hannah play with Duke. He loves to play tug of war so he was a happy doggo. Yet again we turned in early, which is pretty typical for this crew. We want to be on the road by 9am tomorrow since we have some ground to cover but today was a good day.
