1/8/25-Wednesday-Day 33 “Feeling Bamboozled”

1/8/25-Wednesday-Day 33 “Feeling Bamboozled”

This morning we’re on the road again by 9am. There’s plenty of ground to cover and we’re headed to a spot that’s known to have some great pizza. I’m excited for that. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mexican food but I like to change it up occasionally. The cool cloudy temps make for a good drive day. We prefer to travel on the cruddy days and hang around camp when the weather is nice. The days drive was long, longer than we prefer but sometimes that’s just how it goes. We felt pretty thankful that we were heading south today as there was a line of vehicles backed up for miles in the northbound lanes.

We are all new to traveling in mainland so we’re always going to places we’ve never been before. We see photos of the places we’re headed in the apps we use but today we felt a little bamboozled by the conditions of our chosen home for the night. The photos online were a little misleading. I’m sure this place was well cared for at one point in time but that isn’t the case during our visit. It’s a cold, rainy and muddy mess and the restaurant that’s known for their amazing pizza is closed.

Shortly after setting up the camper we slip on our rain gear and head into town to check things out. It’s quiet around town, there aren’t many people out at all. I get the vibe that it’s usually pretty quiet around here. The mission is beautiful and the doggos were all over the streets ready to greet us. That’s a constant here in Mexico. It’s different in Baja than here in mainland. In Baja the dogs typically look much healthier and seem like they’re living their best little lives, here they look a little down on their luck. They’re usually skinny and injured in some way. It really breaks my heart to see them in such bad shape. I wish we could take them all with us.

After our walk around town we headed back to camp and were all in our respective homes before dark. I keep reminding myself that this is only for one night.  Adam and I shared a leftover torta (sandwich) and some chips for dinner. This campground is popular for climbers and we’re parked right next to a small building where they like to hang out/climb. We can hear folks talking as if they’re right next to us. This doesn’t make me feel any better but I’m hoping it won’t be too loud when we go to bed.
