12/10/24-Tuesday-Day 4 “Ferry Confusion & A Whale Skeleton”

12/10/24-Tuesday-Day 4 “Ferry Confusion & A Whale Skeleton”

By 6 o’clock this morning I was up and out of bed making coffee, along with everyone else at camp. With no real plans for the day other than hiding from the wind we each took our time starting our day and making breakfast. After eating we started the process of researching our options to ferry each of our rigs from La Paz to Mazatlan in mainland Mexico. After a few unsuccessful phone calls and each of us taking our turns looking at the ferry companies websites we determined it probably best to simply get to La Paz and speak to the ferry operators in person to ensure that no one ended up on a ship alone, at least if it could be avoided. We did at least get some price estimates off of the websites.

Annie knows a comfy spot when she sees one!

In the afternoon we had a light lunch and took the dogs for a short walk up the road to see a reconstructed whale skeleton that is on display in front of the currently closed museum. The size was certainly impressive! Afterwards we walked out onto a pier where we saw a rather large Osprey’s nest atop the structure at the end. We returned to camp and relaxed a bit before Mark posed the idea to Josh about going for a short run. Needing to get up and moving myself I decided to join them and we set off on a light jog about a mile or so down the road and back. We finished the run with a cycle of workouts although I did not complete all of the exercises due to a pretty significant blood sugar crash.

Once my blood sugar finally leveled out I started on a dinner of steak quesadillas and rice that was followed by another evening of great conversation and more than a few laughs. It seems as though the plan to hide from the wind today has paid off as we have barely had a breeze through our camp while it appears that the surrounding area has been seeing sustained winds of 50+mph with gusts over 70mph. A fellow camper that showed up today was telling us about a semi that had blown over on the highway and he apparently was the first to arrive on scene. It looks like the wind should be settling down tomorrow so we will likely be moving on though certainly not in any kind of a hurry!
