12/19/24-Thursday-Day 13 “Campestre Maranatha”

Our time at the hot spring has come to an end and as we all discuss the options for our next destination Josh mentions that it may be a good idea to head towards La Paz with intentions of finding out the ferry schedules before the upcoming holidays. We mull over potential campsites in the desert before settling on Campestre Maranatha in Chametla, just a bit north of La Paz. It’s more of a drive than any of us care to make, especially considering the dirt roads out of our current campsite just to reach the highway, but we determine it best if we want to find out about the ferries and we are all over due for a good hot shower. We waste no time breaking camp and soon begin the slow climb out of the valley that we’ve been camped in for the last three nights.

Once we are back on the highway the joy that is driving in Mexico begins and we spend the next couple of hours avoiding passing cars, dodging pot holes, and just praying that a chunk of asphalt doesn’t get kicked up into our windshield by any one of the many commercial trucks dragging doubled flatbeds and tankers. We stop in Ciudad Constitución for lunch and fuel before continuing south for still a couple more hectic hours of driving.

By the time we reach Campestre Maranatha everyone is exhausted from the chaos of the days drive, however relaxation will have to wait as there are chores to be done! Before we can even get our campers set up Mark realizes he is spraying brake fluid from one of his rear brake calipers and promptly gets to work fixing the issue while Heather and I start gathering our laundry to take advantage of the onsite washer and dryers. I also manage to give myself a parking lot haircut in the dark before heading off to one of the many unpredictable showers in the campground.
