12/21/24-Saturday-Day 15- 12/22/24-Sunday-Day 16 “Savoring What Remains”

12/21/24-Saturday-Day 15
With eleven days left to enjoy the Baja peninsula before departing for mainland we decide to sit still where we are for the next two days and enjoy the beautiful turquoise water which we are camped on. The morning is spent writing and editing photos before I pry myself away from the laptop, grabbing my snorkel and spear to explore the rocks and coral reefs nearby. There is certainly an abundance of small, colorful reef fish but nothing of note worth eating so I quickly give up hunting and instead enjoy the sea life that surrounds me for a while before returning to shore.

The afternoon hours are spent much like the morning, back and forth between photos and writing until the evening rolls around and we get started on dinner. Over our evening meals we talk about the prospect of new experiences on the horizon in mainland Mexico and the group can hardly wait to cross the Sea of Cortez to kick off what will surely be an amazing adventure, come what may!

12/22/24-Sunday-Day 16

After breakfast all of the toys come out. Mark inflates a stand-up paddle board for Michele and him to take turns on, Josh pumps up both of their inflatable kayaks for their entire family to enjoy and I inflate one of our two packrafts so that Heather can join everyone on the water. I managed to get a decent cut on the bottom of my foot yesterday when I kicked a sharp rock while shuffling my feet to avoid stingrays as I exited the water. While I do a decent job of keeping my blood sugar levels in check, as a type 1 diabetic foot injuries can be potentially problematic if not taken care of so I opt out of the days aquatic activities in an effort to let the cut heal.

While everyone else is on the water I spend my time writing as well as taking and going through photos while locals come and go throughout the day, enjoying their Sunday afternoon on the beach along side our campsite.

While making dinner a group rides down the beach and behind our campsite on horseback and I can’t help but imagine how beautiful it must be to experience the beaches of Mexico in such a way!
