About Us
Hello! We are Heather and Adam Olterman, two Ohioans who were pretty content in their lives but in September 2019 we took our first trip out west and it forever changed us. We had no idea at the time how big of an impact that trip was going to have on us. We spent two weeks living the type of lifestyle that before we’d only watched on Youtube. We realized in that timeframe how little we required to thrive and wanted more of needing less. Before 2019 we had spent many of our vacations going to the beach in Florida, don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful but our eyes were opened to a whole new world during that first trip to Colorado.
We took 2-3 weeks again in 2020 and 2021 exploring different western states. When we returned back to Ohio in August of 2021 we kept laughing over the idea of selling it all to travel. That idea never left and we soon started making a budget to see if we could really make this work. Sure enough all the stars aligned so we decided to go for it. We started selling and donating our belongings while working countless hours on home projects to get our house ready to sell.
We spent almost two decades building and living a life of familiarity and comfort and on March 1st, 2022 we listed our home and accepted an offer within 5 hours. Things were getting real. By the end of March we had our house mostly cleared out and had our closing on April 5th. I (Heather) previously worked in banking for nearly 15 years before my position was eliminated and in May Adam resigned from his 11 year career working as a freight conductor. We couldn’t believe our crazy dream was all falling into place. Yes, I cried leaving our driveway for the very last time. I loved our home but I loved the idea of what we were doing even more. We grow when we step outside of our comfort zone.
We then spent 6 months living out of our tear drop camper and Jeep while we waited on our truck camper to be built. We are now approaching 3 years on the road and have absolutely zero regrets, having experienced so much more than we ever imagined.
Our goal in starting this site is to share more about our unconventional life on the road and to hopefully help and inspire others in following their dreams as well.
